Our Mission

We, at St. Patrick's church, are members of the Body of Christ in the world. Our mission is to worship together in joy and grace; and in our daily lives: to seek and serve Christ in all persons, to love our neighbors as ourselves, and to respect the dignity of every human being, as we proclaim by word and example the good news of God in Christ.

As of September 2012, the priest-in-charge at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church is the Reverend Marcia G. Hunter, who comes to Somerset from Berea, Kentucky and brings with her a long career of dedicated services, both in the community and the church.  Mother Marcia has been in semi-retirement, doing supply work for the Dioese of Lexington .  A native of St. Paul MN, Marcia studied in mid-life for the priesthood, earning her divinity degree from United Theological Seminary in the Twin Cities, and a certificate in Anglican Studies from Nashotah House Episcopal Seminary near Milwaukee, WI.  Marcia has served parishes in Colorado Springs, CO, Brookings, SD and Christ Church Cathedral in Lexington, KY. After serving at the Cathedral, she worked as a Chaplain for Hospice Care Plus based in Berea serving patients and families in several Eastern KY. Counties. She is looking forward to working with the faith community of St Patrick's Episcopal Church.

The Right Rev. Dr. Douglas Hahn, Bishop

Raised in Georgia, my roots run deep in central Kentucky. I come from generations of Kentucky teachers and farmers, spent summers in a community in Mercer County, and went to graduate school in Louisville.

I first encountered God through family, Sunday school teachers and youth workers. I continued to learn at Southern Seminary, General Seminary, and the University of the South, where I received a Doctor of Ministry. I have continued training in clergy care and congregational development. Like many of you I was raised in another denomination; like all of you I’m blessed to be an Episcopalian. I lead a progressive, inviting parish, widely recognized in the city and diocese for beautiful worship, creative children’s programming, and ministries among and alongside diverse racial, religious, and cultural groups. My ministry as Dean includes five towns, seven parishes, 12 priests, and shared outreach ministry. I’m passionate about Christ’s work among us. In the diocese I’ve worked with Christian formation, youth outreach, and parishes in transition, chaired the Standing Committee, and am a General Convention alternate. A pastoral presence, I value lay ministry, clergy development and wellness, and engaging youth with society. Kaye and I have three young adult children.
