In the Episcopal Church, the Altar Guild is a group of men and women who are called to serve God by preparing and tending the places where we worship. The purpose of the Altar Guild is to support and assist the rector and other clergy in assuring all services of the church are conducted in proper order and beauty for the worship of God and His Son, Jesus Christ. We take care of vestments; buy wine, wafers and altar linens. The candles and flowers are also the responsibility of the Altar Guild. In addition we prepare the Sanctuary for Baptisms, Weddings, and Funerals.
The Altar Guild prepares and maintains everything that is necessary for the Holy Eucharist or any of the sacraments. The worship services could not function smoothly without the dedicated volunteers of this ministry. We are a fellowship ministry of the parish.
The Altar Guild has posted a Flower Chart on the back door of the church. Anyone who would like to donate flowers on a specific date in memory, in honor, a birthday, an anniversary, please sign up on the Flower Chart, write a check for $25 to the church, with “flowers” on the memo line and give to church office. For more information contact Jeanne Travis.
We are always ready to accept new members to our ministry. Our Altar Guild works in assigned teams designated for each month – usually teams of two. New members receive training and guidance from the team members, as well as available manuals and illustrations and check lists to ensure the correct steps are completed. It’s a painless process, but the most rewarding contribution you can make to your church and to your God.
There are three “leaders” in St. Patrick’s Altar Guild –Jane Byrnes, who does the scheduling, Jeanne Travis, who keeps track of wine, wafers and altar linen purchases, and Pat Lefebvre, who trains new members and launders and irons all linens. |
